Brit tourist, 27, faces police probe in Mauritius after road smash with electric bike
A British tourist is under police investigation after a rental car he was allegedly driving collided with an electric bicycle, leaving a 15-year-old boy dead.
Boris Tze Sek Sum was riding his electric bike when he was struck by a hire car driven by a 27-year-old British holidaymaker in Mauritius.
When emergency services arrived, Boris was found unconscious on the road with a serious head injury.
Residents rushed to help before paramedics arrived. He was treated at the scene by the SAMU emergency medical team before being taken to SSRN Hospital, where he was admitted to intensive care and placed on life support. Doctors described his condition as critical.
He was placed on a ventilator but tragically died on the night of July 1.
The crash happened at around 4.50pm on June 19 on the coastal road at Pointe-aux-Biches, opposite a hotel.
Local police said the rental car collided with the teenager’s electric bicycle.
According to investigators, Boris was attempting to overtake a lorry when he entered the path of the oncoming vehicle.

Police have questioned the driver and taken statements from several witnesses as they work to establish the exact circumstances of the crash.
The driver passed a breathalyser test at the scene. Both the rental car and the teenager’s electric bicycle were seized as part of the investigation.
Authorities have also confirmed there was no Safe City CCTV coverage in the area where the collision took place.
The British tourist is understood to have since left Mauritius. Investigators say he could still be asked to provide further information if required as the inquiry continues.
At the family’s home in Pointe-aux-Piments, relatives have been left devastated by the loss.
Boris, the eldest of two children, was remembered as a cheerful, respectful teenager with a promising future.
Having spent part of his childhood in Trou-aux-Biches before moving with his family to Pointe-aux-Piments, he was described by loved ones as a kind-hearted young man who was always smiling and deeply loved by those around him.
A police investigation is underway to shed light on the exact circumstances of the crash.
